Making Glass at Kokomo Opalescent Glass

Kokomo Opalescent Glass is a manufacturer of colored glass for art and architecture with worldwide distribution and a strong commitment to research, education, and promoting sheet glass art. Based in Kokomo, Indiana for over 130 years, KOG is known worldwide for our hand mixed sheet glass art and colored glass.

Forming Glass Sheets

As many as five ladles of 1800° F molten glass are brought to a mixing table. The mixer then blends the glass and puts it into a pair of rollers. The glass exits the rollers onto a conveyor belt where the sheet slowly cools down to room temperature.

Trimming and Recycling

After 30 minutes of gradually cooling in the lehr, the glass is trimmed down to the specifications needed. If the sheet is a single color, the scrap is recycled with the next batch of that color. 98% of scrap is recycled.

 Rainbow Rooms

The glass is then stored until ordered by a client.
